PhotoKey 8 Pro integrates into Adobe Photoshop CC and above, and can be applied to any 8-bit RGB layer.
Some features are not available when running in plugin mode.
Launching the plugin
To launch the plugin from inside Photoshop, go to the Filter menu and choose PhotoKey -> Edit in PhotoKey 8 Pro.
PhotoKey 8 Pro will launch in plugin mode. This provides a streamlined keying experience designed specifically for keying the chosen layer.
The available features work exactly the same as in the normal version of PhotoKey 8 Pro. See the Key chapter for details. Note that some features that require interaction with the background layer, such as Spill Suppression and Light Wrap, are not available when running in plugin mode, since there is no background layer available.
If the plugin is greyed out in Photoshop's filter menu, check that your image uses 8-bit RGB color, and that you have a layer selected, and not a background, in the Photoshop layers palette.
• | Open the Image > Mode menu in Photoshop and make sure that RGB Color and 8 bits/Channel are selected |
• | If your selected layer is a background, double-click it to open the New Layer dialog, then press Return or click OK to convert it to a layer. Since backgrounds cannot contain transparency, it is necessary to convert any background to a layer before you can remove portions of it with PhotoKey's keying tools. |
Returning to Photoshop
Once you have keyed your layer, click the Send back to Photoshop button. This will close PhotoKey and update the layer inside Photoshop.
Cancelling the plugin
If you change your mind you can click Cancel to return to Photoshop without any alterations.
You can also click Cancel on the pop-up window inside Photoshop.
Photoshop Actions
If you are batch processing multiple images through Photoshop, and use Photoshop's Actions to automate the process of applying sequences of complex commands, you can now use PhotoKey 8 Pro's plugin within your actions. Improvements to the plugin in version 8 bring full support for the Photoshop Actions palette, to help speed up your workflow.
